What Good Carpet Guide is

Good Carpet Guide is an independent, research-based reference about choosing, installing and caring for carpet, written for homeowners in the United States. We are not a carpet retailer, manufacturer or installation company.

Who is behind the site

The site was founded and is edited by Savaş Ateş , a software engineer and internet entrepreneur. He is not a carpet installer or inspector. The site does not present itself as written by trade professionals, and it does not use invented author personas.

How articles are researched and written

  • Sources first. Each article starts from primary sources: industry standards and guidance (for example from the Carpet and Rug Institute, the IICRC and ASTM International), manufacturer specification sheets, installation instructions and warranty documents, and government publications.
  • Source log. Facts and numbers taken from those sources are recorded with the source name, link and the date they were checked. A number that cannot be traced to a source is removed.
  • AI-assisted drafting, human review. Drafts are written with the help of AI tools, working only from the collected source notes. The editor then reviews every draft for accuracy, sourcing, clarity and usefulness before it is published.
  • Reader experiences are labeled. When an article summarises what homeowners report, for example in public forums, it says so and does not present those reports as our own experience or as test results.

New and revised articles have followed this process since October 2026. Older articles are being reviewed against it, and some are being merged, rewritten or retired.

What we do not do

  • We do not claim first-hand product testing, installations or inspections.
  • We do not publish fabricated reviews, quotes or case studies.
  • We do not accept payment for coverage or sponsored articles.

Corrections and updates

If you find an error, an outdated figure or a broken source, please tell us through the contact page . We check the report against the source and correct the article when it is wrong.

Not professional advice

Our guides explain how carpet products and standards work. They are not a substitute for an on-site assessment. For moisture, mold, structural or warranty questions, consult a certified professional, the manufacturer or your retailer.
