One of the first steps to warming our homes in winter is the use of carpets which are the most common houseware in our house when it comes to floorings and coatings. If the floor is naked, ie if there is no carpet laid, it causes a large amount of heat loss at home in the winter months, creates a cooler house and increases the fuel costs considerably. Therefore, carpets are not only decorative elements but also have a very large range of functions.
There are many different options for us when choosing a carpet for our homes. In addition to piece carpets, wall-to-wall carpets, which are more practical and economical options in some respects, and tile carpets, which have become increasingly popular in recent years, also help to create an aesthetic appearance while keeping the houses warm.
In today’s article, I will examine the flooring of the wall to wall carpets. Wall to wall carpets can be found in many different models, thicknesses, and materials. In terms of prices, the wall to wall carpet models, which offer a wide range of budget options, are not necessarily longer in large blocks, but also can be found in the form of floor tiles, also referred to as tile carpets.
Flooring Wall to Wall Carpets
Wall to wall carpets is installed by covering the entire floor. They are preferred in terms of providing heat and sound insulation as well as providing comfortable use in places. They are commonly used in areas such as large hotels, restaurants, and meeting rooms. Wall to wall carpets produced for hot floors has different costs depending on the location to be laid and the carpet quality.
The wall to wall carpet flooring is started by measuring the size of the area to be floored according to the preferred color or pattern. Then the floor is cleaned. Flooring is done by leaving extra centimeters on each side of the carpet. Then the edges and corners are corrected by retouching. The method previously applied by gluing. However, nowadays it is applied in the form of flooring and covering since wall to wall carpets with nonslip bases started to be produced. If the craftsmanship of the flooring is done by taking the finer details into consideration, there will be no failures and the carpet will be ready for use without any problems.
Carpet flooring application will be perfected especially when it is done by skilled people. However, it is possible to apply the same procedure at home yourself by learning the workmanship well. Still, it is necessary to decide whether to have it done or to do it yourself according to the long-term use of the coating.
Carpet Flooring Step by Step
If the carpet is to be floored by you or if there is no need for a professional laying, the layout is planned first. It is determined according to the width and height of the room. Then the sweeping direction of the carpet is determined. When the carpet is swept out, it should be laying in the direction to be cleaned in such a way that the dirt can be removed. The edge of the carpet is fully seated in the corners before being cut. For this, the rear head part of the blade is rubbed to the bottom corner of the rim until the edge angle of the rim is seen to make the carpet have 45 degrees angle, if necessary. Where the floor ends and the carpet starts to climb the wall, the cutting place is marked. Then the carpet is cut carefully from the cutting places. If the skirting board is not yet attached to the bottom of the wall and it will be installed, it is possible to make optional cuts under the skirting.
If there are curved skirtings such as herringbone at the edges of the rooms, then the skirting board should be re-installed after finishing the carpet flooring before the cutting. In a straight skirting model, it is not necessary to remove the skirting board. In the door section, when the door is closed, the carpet on the floor is cut and glued in a way that it cannot be seen from the outside. The endpoint of the floored carpet should be just below the door when it is closed. If there is a carpet on the other side of the room at the end of the door, an additional flooring profile should be mounted. If there is no carpet after the point where the carpet ends, ceramic or parquet flooring can be used according to the condition of additional closing or carpet finishing level.
The day your new carpet is laid is one of the most important days in your life. On the other hand, the professional flooring master who makes the flooring is one who rarely sees the respect he deserves. Laying a floor carpet in a house requires a solid physical condition, knowledge, skill, technical ability, and mastery. The most important tool to be used by the master who comes to your house is the carpet stretching machine in large areas. If the flooring master does not use a stretching machine, wrinkles may occur in your new carpet in less than 6 months. Where the carpet stretching machine is required, especially in any room larger than 10 meters × 10 meters, the carpet should be stretched in order to prevent the carpet to be wrinkled. The stretching machine consists of long pipes connecting the two opposite walls.
The second most important tool that your flooring master will use is his brain. Someone who is really a master of the business will be able to visualize the correct placement of your carpet and place the joints on your new carpet in the best possible way. Thanks to the experience of the flooring craftsman, it will be ensured that all carpet is placed in the right direction. If a carpet seller tells you that the carpet doesn’t have a certain direction, get away from it immediately because it’s lying to you. Going back to the flooring, you also have something you can do about the carpet-installing. Even if you bring a professional to lay the carpet in your house, the various measures you can take to ensure that the job is done well and that there are no problems later include:
It should be ensured that the room, which will be covered with a wall to wall carpet, is empty and clean. You can do the following to make it easier to get the job done before the flooring master comes:
Using a spatula or a similar tool, remove the residue, plaster, paint, cement, and concrete layers from the floor. If there is another floor cover, sweep the floor with a vacuum cleaner after removing it. Wipe the floor with a damp cloth and check that the floor is flat. Fix the location where the power and telephone cables are installed so that they are not damaged. Do not let any plant or curtains hang over the area where the carpet will be floored. Open windows and doors to ensure good ventilation. Please note that carpet flooring is the last step in flooring changes. For this reason, if there is any previous change to be done such as painting, level difference, and ground leveling, they must be done first, ie. you should finish the repair works.
If there are curved skirtings such as herringbone at the corners of the edge walls of the rooms, the skirting boards should be removed before the carpet is laid and they should be reattached after the carpet flooring is completed. If you do not have a skirting board suitable for your carpet, you should choose the carpet according to your skirting boards. If you have a straight angled skirting, you do not need to remove it.
Before Starting Flooring
When the flooring master arrives, one should keep in mind:
- First of all, make sure the carpet is the carpet you ordered after you see it in the store. Check the size, type, color code of the carpet.
- Ask the flooring master to check for any faults on the carpet.
- Keep the label of the carpet, the warranty certificate, and a small piece of carpet. If you want to buy this same carpet again, it can be very useful.
- If there is a remaining carpet, it can be used as a doormat or for repair work in the future. So, you may want to keep it.
After delivering the product that will be installed to the installation team, leave the space with the specialist. Check the working area after the completion of the work. Some points to pay attention after the flooring is finished are as follows:
Some of the edge ropes of the carpet can be deformed within a few days. Do not pull those strings, cut them with sharp scissors or light them with a lighter.
It is possible to partially raise a door which does not open or close easily by placing a stamp on the hinges of it. If the door is low, remove the door and reattach the bottom of the door as needed. Make sure that there are no wrinkles on the carpet after laying. If the carpet is not flat and tight, ask the flooring master to re-stretch the carpet.
How to Measure the Size of the Room Before Flooring
The size of the floor should be measured by personnel working for the company who makes the flooring. By this way, the surface of the floor is controlled (whether the leveling of the surface is smooth or not), the lack of measurement due to an imbalance in the wall edges are prevented and correct evaluation of the product is ensured. If the customer requested the product, the shape and doorway should be specified in the sketch in the form of a matchbox, and the dimensions of four walls should be measured separately to make the most appropriate measurement and to eliminate the possibility of falling short. It would be appropriate to give an extra 20 cm share to the height and width.
The flooring craftsman makes the plan according to the width and length of the carpet and the dimensions of the application area with the least amount of waste. In order to give minimum wastage to the measured space, the product to be floored is applied in a transverse or longitudinal laying program. The quantity may be reduced by correct evaluation. The direction of the pattern on the floor, the aesthetic angle, and the location of the joints (if there are any) are determined by the customer.
The price of the flooring application includes workmanship, gluing, and shipping services. After the measurement is taken, the amount of the product to be used with the planned application method and the unit price is determined, and the amount that is determined is paid. After the payment, the flooring is placed in the queue and the application is done at the agreed time.
Wall to Wall Carpet Flooring for Offices and Hotels
There are important details that should be included in the flooring of carpets in hotels and offices. Some of these details are as follows. The carpets produced by using suitable materials according to the conditions of the environment to be covered with wall to wall carpets should have certain features. They should be non-flammable, not produce bacteria and mites, be stain-proof, and not produce static electricity, in order not to lead to a number of diseases.
The most important feature of the ideal carpet to be selected for use is that it should be one of the products that can resist the weariness of the years and keep the originality of the first day. Wool fiber carpets have the ability to return to their original state when they are freed from pressure thanks to their flexibility.
They keep their original color without any fading for many years. Wool carpet is very easy to clean, stain-free and maintenance-free. So much so; dirt and stain remain in the top layer of the carpet as it cannot enter the wool fiber. So wool carpet helps provide a healthy living space. In addition, it does not lead to electric formation as in synthetic carpets. The wool carpet is ideal especially for hotels and offices heated from the floor.
